Schools as Resilience Hubs
Collective Resilience is excited to be working with the Alameda County agency Stop Waste and their education department in researching how schools can be transformed to serve as resilience hubs.
We are doing extensive research and listening sessions with our stakeholders, looking at how StopWaste’s current goals, programs and policies can integrate into a model for resilience schools and organizing a tour to visit East Bay resilience hubs.
Read below to learn how you can get involved and contribute your ideas and perspectives to this important conversation.
The Call to Action
K-12 students spend up to 6 hours a day and 181 days per year at school.
Collective Resilience is meeting with a variety of stakeholders involved in school communities – including students, parents, teachers, administrators, nonprofit organizations and emergency management staff – to research how schools can better integrate the three pillars of resilient places into schools.
Climate Literacy
How can students learn more effectively about the Climate Crisis and take action on solutions?
Disaster Preparedness
How can school infrastructure be better prepared for extreme heat, atmospheric rivers and other extreme weather?
Community Care
Are there ways that schools could be hubs for community care during extreme weather events?
